Course Overview
This self-paced course, developed by ICEP Europe, provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory, philosophy and practice of inclusive education for students with special and additional educational needs in mainstream primary or secondry schools. The core aim is to prepare teachers and educators to meet the challenges presented by diverse learners and build their understanding and capacity to respond effectively to the educational needs of an increasingly diverse student population. It explores issues around inclusion, human rights, student voice and parental partnership as well as focusing on the best practice at the level of the school and classroom.
Who is this course aimed at?
This course is aimed at teachers and others with a professional interest in meeting the needs of diverse learners in inclusive educational settings. It may also be helpful for parents interested in learning about inclusive educational provision for children and young people with a wide range of special or additional learning needs.
Course Content
Participants will gain knowledge and understanding of the theory, philosophy and practice of inclusive education in terms of its origins and our current understandings of best practice principles. You will gain skills in screening and early identification, diagnostic testing and assessment, and an understanding of underpinning legislation, models of best practice and the whole school approach to meeting the needs of pupils with diverse special or additional educational needs. At the level of classroom practice you will learn a range of teaching strategies, approaches to curriculum modification and differentiation, and will become familiar with focused teaching programmes for specific disabilities. Key issues central to inclusive educational practice are addressed including effective collaboration and individual educational planning. The interactive nature of the course also gives you the opportunity to share best practice suggestions, take part in online discussions and avail of the expertise of our online practitioners.

The course comprises 5 interactive learning modules, each taking approximately four hours online study time to complete, or 20 hours in total

Completion of a Reflective Assignment gives you the opportunity to analyse the key learning points from the course and how they can be applied

On completion of the course you will receive a Certificate of Continuing Professional Development which can be included in your CPD portfolio

Learning is self-paced, allowing you to design your own study schedule around existing commitments, and giving you total freedom and flexibility

Participants are encouraged to interact with each other via the online discussion forum, allowing learners to enter active discussions with their colleagues and receive feedback from the expert course tutors.
