Course Overview

This 20 hour course has been developed by NAS and ICEP Europe, in response to the need for flexible and accessible training for those who work with children and young people with autism spectrum disorders. From explanation and diagnosis to assessment and intervention, this online course provides focused practical strategies and positive approaches to support the progressive learning and personal development of the child or young person with autism. The combination of experienced NAS tutors and quality rich content delivered through a user friendly and innovative online learning environment ensures the delivery of a course which will improve your practical techniques and knowledge of autism spectrum disorders.

Who is this course aimed at?

This course has been specially designed for education professionals and practitioners, inclusion managers, educational psychologists, mentors, SENCOs, and learning support coordinators, LA support team members, learning support staff, early years teachers and allied professionals.

Course Content

This course will examine the key aspects of autism spectrum disorders, looking in detail at diagnosis, assessment, and effective intervention, and provides a route to understanding the complexity of autism. This comprehensive course provides proven strategies that are effective in teaching children with autism spectrum disorders how to learn. The focus is on practical, evidence-based approaches to help educators modify their instruction, structure the classroom, and modify the curriculum to help maximize each child's learning potential. You will also learn how to prevent and intervene with challenging behaviour and become familiar with the principles of functional behavioural assessment. This course provides an excellent foundation of knowledge and practical skills for any professional working in the field of autism spectrum disorders.

Assessment & Award

Each student is required to:

  • Read the course material for each of the five course modules; and,
  • Complete the interactive learning assignment at the end of each module.

On successful completion of the course, students will receive a Certificate of Professional Development.
