Effective Management and Teaching Strategies
Course Overview
This specialised course has been developed by ICEP Europe in conjunction with the Special Education Department of St Patrick’s College Drumcondra, Ireland and provides an overview of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from Autism to Asperger syndrome. Autistic spectrum disorders appear to be on the increase. Where did this all start? Have we always had children with autism? What causes it? What is Asperger syndrome? What specific difficulties do children with autism or Asperger syndrome have? Do they socialise in the same way as other children? Do they form attachments? Do they play the same way other children play? How can we help them to learn? These are some of the questions that have been the focus of research for many years. During this course we address all these questions, keeping you informed about the latest research and, more importantly, how these findings apply to the child with Autistic Spectrum Disorders in your classroom or school.
Who is this course aimed at?
While this course is primarily designed for teachers and those working with children or young people with Autism, it may also be helpful for parents who want more detailed information about the development and education of children and young people with this disorder.

“I found that the course really lives up to its title. I truly have a much better understanding of autism and especially with having a nephew with autism it is great to know about the research and the proactive approach that is happening now and will continue into the future so that these children can have the opportunity to experience life to their full potential.”
